The brief

Pyramid SD is a scaffold design consultancy based in Chelmsford.


With extensive practical scaffolding experience, advanced education and technical knowledge as a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), and over a decade of experience working at leading industry firms, founder Ben King was ready to start his own business.


He approached Mammoth to create a full brand identity for his new startup – Pyramid SD – with 3 main objectives:

  1. Communicate clearly, devoid of unnecessary jargon, to make complex scaffolding concepts accessible to all.
  2. Shine a spotlight on the unique challenges faced in the construction industry by building a wellbeing-focused scaffolding brand.
  3. Inject some intelligence and wit into the brand voice, challenging negative industry stereotypes.

Project outcomes

Following a discovery session with Ben at his offices in Chelmsford, we delivered a full brand identity for Pyramid SD presented in a portal containing everything our client needs to make the business launch a success. The Pyramid SD brand portal includes:

  • Brand Essence (Purpose, Mission, Vision)
  • Core Values
  • Copywriting (Company bio, Tagline, Brand story, Tone of voice)
  • Logo
  • Colour palette
  • Typography
  • Imagery for a social media campaign
  • A series of print and digital brand assets, including business cards, social media templates, a logo watermark, headed paper, an email signature, and banner designs.

Our brand design was based on the sophisticated line-work seen within the design industries of scaffolding and architecture, evoking a high-end feel. The vibrant colour palette captured the essence of Ben’s vision for Pyramid SD as an inspiring employer brand.

I was really impressed with the package Mammoth put together for us, they took the time to understand our business, through an interview phase and then with consistent communication up to the final submission. James was very interested in what we do and the culture of the business to ensure the tone of the brand was loud and clear. The online interface where our assets are kept was a really smart feature and allows for one organised location so I can easily access what I need.
